TAG Heuer’s Monaco Skeleton Chronograph is a contemporary masterpiece

The openworked design of the dial lends the three new models a forward-looking aesthetic

TAG Heuer has unveiled the new Monaco Skeleton Chronograph, offering a contemporary and technical take on its iconic square chronograph. This release marks the first time a standard production Monaco features a skeleton dial, making it a unique addition to the brand’s lineup. The watch embraces the Technique d’Avant-Garde (TAG) part of the brand, showcasing a modern and architectural design approach.

The Monaco Skeleton Chronograph retains the classic shape and proportions of the original model, with a 39mm width, 14.7mm height, and 47.4mm length. The case is made of grade 2 titanium, aimed at providing enhanced comfort on the wrist compared to the steel version. The entire case, caseback, crown, and pushers have a sandblasted finish, adding to the overall muted look. The iconic features such as the bevelled sapphire crystal and elongated pushers are retained, while a crown at 3 o’clock is reintroduced.

The dial of the watch is the main highlight, featuring an openworked design with bold and graphic elements, revealing parts of the movement. The dial showcases sharp lines, angles, and modern sub-counters, deviating from the rounded square shape of previous models. The combination of a round seconds track within a square dial and radially positioned indexes towards the centre remains true to the Monaco’s signature design. Super-LumiNova coating on various dial elements enhances the watch’s graphic appearance in low-light conditions. Overall, the new model exudes a contemporary and forward-looking aesthetic rather than seeking to revive the past.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph is available in three editions: Original Blue, Racing Red, and Turquoise. The Original Blue edition features a non-treated titanium case, a blue dial with white and red accents, and a blue strap. The Racing Red edition also has a non-treated titanium case, a black dial with red and white accents, and a black strap. The Turquoise edition stands out with its black DLC-coated case, black strap, black dial with turquoise-coloured accents, and a matching column wheel and rotor.

Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre Heuer 02, an integrated automatic chronograph movement. It boasts a power reserve of 80 hours and operates at a frequency of 4 Hz. The movement incorporates a column wheel and vertical clutch for precise chronograph functionality. The sapphire caseback provides a clear view of the movement, showcasing its Geneva stripes finishing and coloured accents that coordinate with the dial designs. The watch is accompanied by a bi-material strap, which combines rubber and embossed leather for a comfortable wearing experience. The strap is fastened with a sandblasted titanium grade 2 folding clasp featuring double safety pushbuttons.

The TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph editions are part not limited editions, and are now available for purchase through TAG Heuer’s website, boutiques, and authorised retailers.
