At this year’s Watches and Wonders, Vacheron Constantin debuted the Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date as part of its impressive selection of novelties. The timepiece introduces a first to the coveted Overseas collection with the inclusion of a retrograde display. For Vacheron Constantin, the retrograde display is characteristic of the brand’s living heritage and continual drive to reinvent itself. Taking shape in a cool blue colorway, the new model is exemplary of contemporary functionality assuming a classic design aesthetic.

With a moderate diameter of 41mm, the watch wears 10.48mm high on the wrist. Clad in steel, the exterior has a streamlined silhouette that transitions seamlessly into the integrated bracelet or strap. On the reverse is an exhibition caseback, allowing a glimpse of the movement ticking within. Vacheron Constantin offers three distinct options to secure the watch, a blue calfskin leather strap, a polished and satin-finished steel bracelet, and a blue rubber strap.

The rich blue dial provides a lush backdrop for the retrograde display that is signature of Vacheron Constantin design. Spanning the upper half of the dial’s periphery, the date is indicated using a blued, arrow-shaped hand. Depicting two gold moons and a star-studded sky through the aperture at 6 o’clock, the precise moon phase indicator only needs adjusting every 122 years.

Powering the timepiece is the self-winding caliber 2460 R31L/2. It is capable of indicating hours, minutes, stop seconds, and, of course, operates a retrograde hand-type date and moon phase. Composed of a total of 275 components, the mechanism offers a complete power reserve of 40 hours.
